This morning at church I heard a little girl in the bathroom talking with whom I assume was her mom:
"Promise you won't leave me?" she asked from one of the stalls. I did not hear the answer, but I assume it was affirmative.
"Promise to God?" the little girl asked.
This
made me stop and think. Obviously a simple "yes" was not good enough
for this little girl. She wanted to be EXTRA sure that her mother would
not leave without her, and in her mind "promising to God" was more
binding.
Is my "yes" always yes without tacking on a "promise?" I want it to be. I want to be trustworthy in all that I say and do.
